Can't find it on a delivery app? One Miami store's Uber Eats menu lists an empanada with the same birthday cake batter filling under the name "Vanilla Creme Empanada" ($4.26), so check the Sweets section by description, not just by name.

What is the Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada?

Taco Bell's menu calls it "a crispy, golden empanada with birthday cake batter filling, topped with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles." It is based on Milk Bar's Birthday Cake, the famous funfetti-style cake from Christina Tosi's New York bakery.

How does it taste?

Sporked tried it on launch week and gave it 9 out of 10:

• Shell: crispy at the edges, still a little chewy, and not stale
• Filling: not as sweet as it looks. Sporked says the fruity pink glaze adds some tang that balances it
• Size: small, about five or six bites, and a bit pricey for that size

How to get the empanada free on your birthday

From October 15 to October 28, 2026, Taco Bell Rewards members who get a birthday reward can choose a free Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada or a free regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze.

1. Join Taco Bell Rewards in the Taco Bell app (it's free).
2. Add your birthday to your profile. You need it saved to get the reward.
3. Redeem in the app at a participating US store. It does not work for web orders, and delivery only counts when ordered in the app.

The reward lasts 31 days, but the empanada choice is only offered through October 28. One per transaction, no substitutions.

Is the empanada limited time?

Yes. Taco Bell says it is available for a limited time, while supplies last. It has not given an end date. We'll update this page when stores start running out.
