Wendy's Menu Changes 2026: Bigger Lettuce, Thicker Bacon and Breakfast Cuts

Short answer: On November 5, 2026, Wendy's announced a turnaround plan called "Dave's Way." The first menu changes are thicker bacon, bigger pieces of lettuce on sandwiches, creamier Frosty desserts and upgraded salads, plus cutting slow-selling items. The lettuce backlash, explained

In October 2025, Wendy's quietly swapped the flat leaf romaine on many sandwiches for shredded iceberg lettuce. Customers on Reddit said the shredded lettuce got "soggy and slimy" and made burgers taste like a "cafeteria sandwich." Wendy's said the change was part of updating its "product builds."

The new plan's bigger lettuce pieces look like a response to those complaints, though Wendy's hasn't said whether whole-leaf lettuce is coming back.

Is Wendy's getting rid of breakfast?

Not everywhere. Wendy's says its breakfast strategy is becoming location-specific: franchisees can choose whether to keep serving breakfast. Wendy's said tests showed a big profit boost at restaurants that stopped, and its CFO said the move could unlock up to $200 million in restaurant earnings across the system.

Breakfast fans weren't happy. "The breakfast Baconator was literally the only reason I ate there," one Reddit user wrote, as quoted by Parade.

Why Wendy's is changing now

• Sales are falling. U.S. same-restaurant sales fell 5.7% in the third quarter of 2026 and 6.8% so far this year.
• Burger King passed Wendy's in U.S. sales this year, making Wendy's the No. 3 burger chain, according to CNN.
• Hundreds of restaurants closed. Wendy's had 5,711 U.S. restaurants on September 27, 2026, down from 5,979 a year earlier.
• A big franchisee went bankrupt. Meritage Hospitality Group, which runs more than 300 Wendy's, filed for bankruptcy, and Wendy's plans to buy up to 163 of its restaurants.

"We are moving forward with focus and urgency to bring Wendy's to its full potential," CEO Bob Wright said.
