What does the Black Cat Frappuccino taste like?

Think chocolate cake in a cup. Starbucks describes a rich cocoa flavor with brownie-like notes, and most reviewers agree it is very sweet and very chocolatey.

• Food Network compared it to a blended Brooklyn blackout cake and called it rich and sweet.
• Tasting Table picked up dark chocolate with a slightly salty, smoky edge, like a cold blended brownie.
• Sporked liked it a lot and gave it a 9 out of 10.
• Reddit is split. Some fans love it, others call it too rich.

If you like the Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino, this is the darker, more cake-like cousin.

Does the Black Cat Frappuccino have coffee?

No. It is built on the Crème Frappuccino base, so Starbucks lists 0 mg of caffeine. The cocoa may add a trace.

Want a caffeine kick? Reports differ on whether you can add a shot of espresso. Some baristas will, but one outlet found the add-on missing when ordering online. Ask at the counter.

Other easy changes:

• Swap the milk. Tasting Table was not charged for a non-dairy swap.
• Skip the whip or the cat ears in the app.

Starbucks did not announce a price, so we checked real menus. In store, a Grande was $6.75 before tax at a Starbucks near Scranton, Pennsylvania. On Uber Eats it is $8.35 at every Starbucks we checked, in four cities.

How long is the Black Cat Frappuccino available?

Not long. Starbucks says the Black Cat Frappuccino is available through Halloween, October 31, 2026. That is a 10-day run.

Two things can cut that short:

• Select stores only. Starbucks did not say which stores have it, so check the menu in the Starbucks app before you go.
• While supplies last. Some stores may run out before Halloween.

After Halloween, Starbucks moves to its holiday menu, which arrives on November 5.

Venti Black Night Cookie (not "Black Knight")

Lots of people search for the "Black Knight" cookie, but the official name is the Venti Black Night Cookie. "Venti" here means it is a big cookie, not a cup size.

• What's in it: a black cocoa cookie with caramel fudge pieces and chunks of caramelized white chocolate
• Launch: October 22, 2026, alongside the Frappuccino
• Price: $5.25 in store in Pennsylvania, $6.55 on Uber Eats
• Calories: 720, per Starbucks' menu listing on Uber Eats
• Texture: crisp edges and a chewy, brownie-like middle. Tasting Table's cookie came warm

Starbucks black cat cups and Halloween merch

The Black Cat merch landed first, on September 15, 2026, at select US stores while supplies last.

Is it the same as the Japan or Australia Black Cat Frappuccino?

No. Other countries have their own Halloween cat drinks with different recipes.

• US and Canada: chocolate cake-flavored Crème Frappuccino (this one)
• Australia and Singapore: a "Black Cat" Frappuccino with raspberry blackcurrant and dark mocha
• Japan: a Blackberry Yogurt Frappuccino with black or white chocolate ears

So if a TikTok shows a purple or berry drink, it is probably not the US version.

Salem the cat joins the launch

Starbucks brought back Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch as its launch "spokescat." In the October 22 Instagram post, Salem knocks the drink over and cackles. Starbucks says Salem will keep popping up on its social channels over the following week.
